I Stand in You

Kelly Willard

A calming and peaceful PIANO ONLY offering of deeply spiritual songs, written by Kelly Willard. A perfect setting for prayer, meditation, contemplation, reading, drawing, painting, or just about anything you would like to use it for,

"Simple, honest, unpretentious, easy to listen to over and over..."

These are a few words that many people use when describing the music and voice of Kelly Willard.

Although Kelly has lent her talents to the atistry of such well-known artists as Bob Bennett, Bruce Carroll, Jim Cole, Dion DiMucci, Bob Fitts, Amy Grant, Buddy Greene, Keith Green, Steve Green, Karen Lafferty, Lenny LeBlanc, Fernando Ortega, Twila Paris, Ricky Skaggs, Paul Overstreet, and inumerable Praise and Worship recordings over the years, she remains as simple and approachable as a person can be.

Born and raised in Winter Haven, Florida, Kelly took to the piano at the tender age of five. Piano lessons were short-lived, as she preferred the unconventional path of playing 'by ear'. Learning by listening to the radio and recordings, Kelly began to compose her own songs when she was thirteen years old. Accompanying the choir at her church, playing and singing in nursing homes on Sunday afternoons, and traveling with a part-time Gospel group on weekends kept her sharing her talents with people.

At the young age of sixteen years, Kelly moved to Nashville, TN, where music became her livelihood. Taking the opportunities afforded her to accompany such groups as The Jake Hess Sound, The Archers, and Seth, she continued to offer her God-given abilities. But, Kelly credits her vocal development to a man from Oklahoma City, OK, named Harlan Rogers. She says that he encouraged her and taught her, actually having to talk he into singing solos. "I really didn't think I had what it took to sing solo, but Harlan kept insisting that I did, and if it weren't for his influence and belief in my giftings, I probably never would have sung anything outside of a 'group' setting."

Kelly married at age eighteen, joined Harlan Rogers & Friends, and traveled the midwest until 1977, when she and her husband, Dan, moved to Southern California to be a part pf the then current flow of "Jesus Music" people, ministering and recording in that area. She played keyboards and sung background vocals on projects for such artists as Karen Lafferty, Bob Bennett, Tommy Coomes, Roby Duke, and Lewis McVay before Maranatha!Music approached her to record her own solo project.

1979 witnessed the release of her first solo album titled, BLAME IT ON THE ONE I LOVE, produced by Jonathan David Brown. The release of this album thrust Kelly into the eyes, ears and hearts of the public, as much of her music received extensive National radio airplay, and she began touring the United States and other countries.

In 1981 Kelly was involved in the production of her second album, WILLING HEART.

1983 brought the release of her next "project", a son, named BRYAN ASHER WILLARD. Bryan is a musician/writer/worship leader in his own right, and lives with his wife and three daughters in Nashville, Tn. Later that same year Maranatha!Music released what many people have termed their "favorite Kelly Willard album, titled PSALMS,HYMNS & SPIRITUAL SONGS. This recording is what Kelly considers "a personal look at her relationship with God, through worshipful music."

In 1986, Kelly bore a second child, her beautiful and most cherished daughter, named HAYLIE GRACE WILLARD, who entered her Eternal Home with Jesus at the age of eighteen. (August 29, 2004)

Her fourth and fifth albums, released between 1986 and 1991, are titled MESSAGE FROM A KING, and GARDEN.

In 1996 Kelly had the opportunity to record a "Positive Country" CD, which was originally only released in Holland, but which Kelly has recently re-released through her website, for all to hear. It is titled HOMESICK FOR HEAVEN.

With all that Kelly has had the opportunity to do, she has expressed that her favorite thing is, "to worship God, and lead others in doing the same." She states,"I believe God's greatest desire is to Love us. And, as we receive His Love for us, our hearts respond with authentic love, praise and adoration for Him. It is in this setting that I believe our own healing and restoration takes place. To be a part of this kind of ministry is an honor and responsibility that keeps me on my knees before Him. I am truly humbled that He would grant me the privelege of being a carrier of His Presence."

Blame It On the One I Love

Kelly Willard

This bright and contagious folk/pop style music is classic vintage contemporary Christian music, still as fresh today as it was when recorded in 1978 on Southern California's Maranatha!Music label !

"Simple, honest, unpretentious, easy to listen to over and over..." These are a few words that many people use when describing the music and voice of Kelly Willard. Although Kelly has lent her talents to the artistry of such well-known artists as Bob Bennett, Bruce Carroll, Dion DiMucci, Buddy Greene, Keith Green, Steve Green, Susie Luchsinger, Fernando Ortega, Twila Paris, Ricky Scaggs, Paul Overstreet, and inumerable Praise and Worship recordings over the years, she remains as simple, approachable and 'down to earth' as a person can be. Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs

Kelly Willard

This album was originally recorded in 1983. It is true vintage worship music. Kelly considers this to be, "a look at my personal relationship with God, through music." The music is tastefully produced, inspired and inspiring. A must hear!

"I had such a wonderful time hand-picking all of the songs for this album...each one has a special meaning to my life. such as the old hymn, from the early 1950's, called "Follow Me". I grew up singing that one in church, as well as the medley of "Nothing But the Blood of Jesus-Are You Washed In the Blood". The arranger and I were particularly inspired by Dave Grusin's piano music at that time, so we "borrowed" a little bit of style from him and came up with an arrangement that has been copied many times over. I love the "slower" songs that are so worshipful, such as "Psalm 139-Where Could I Go From Your Spirit", and "I Feel Like I Wanna Praise Jesus". I feel that this is one of my very best albums, and the sales over the years have proved it to be so...It has been my "best-seller"! Join along with me in the true spirit of worship to Jesus our Lord and King. Enjoy!

Paga'

Kelly Willard

One of the best-loved voices since 1978, with this her 9th solo recording. She returns with her authentic and powerfully convincing musical expressions of her love for and vital relationship with God.

In the book of Leviticus, when God gave instructions about the duties of the High Priest, the Lord told Moses, “He is to take a censer full of burning coals from the altar before the Lord, and two handfuls of finely ground fragrant incense, and take them behind the curtain. He is to put the incense on the fire before the Lord, and the smoke of the incense will conceal the atonement cover above the Testimony.” This sacrifice - for the purpose of intercession - is known in the Hebrew as Paga'.

Listening to many praise & worship songs sung today, one might think sacrifice is an easy thing. Our modern songs about sacrifices of praise are generally upbeat and joyful. But sacrifice is difficult and painful, and a true sacrifice of praise comes when praising is the last thing you want to do. When life itself is grueling, when getting up in the morning, taking that next step, taking that next breath, is itself a battle. Singer/songwriter Kelly Willard knows what it is to offer a sacrifice of praise.

People who were part of the “Jesus Movement” in the late‘70s know Kelly Willard’s music well. She was a featured soloist on over two dozen praise projects from Integrity, Vineyard Music and Maranatha! Music, including 16 of the Maranatha! Music Praise albums, which were precursors to the resurgence in popularity of worship music today. She has sung duets and background vocals with artists such as Dion Di Mucci, Paul Clark, the late Keith Green, Bob Bennett, Roby Duke, Lenny LeBlanc, Michele(Pillar)Carlton, Amy Grant, Twila Paris, Buddy Greene, Steve Green, Paul Overstreet, Ricky Skaggs, and more. She has recorded nine of her own solo projects.

So, why did Kelly walk away from a vibrant career and ministry in 1991? It was her commitment to her family. “I couldn’t travel, be there for my marriage and children, and be everything the public wanted me to be for them, as far as ministry goes”, Kelly states. “I felt pulled in too many different directions.”

Caring for her family included caring for her Mother, who suffered for 10 years with Alzheimer’s. It was during this time that Kelly was re-diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Then in 2004, life quickly unraveled for Kelly. In less than one year, her 29 year marriage failed, both of her parents passed away, and her teenage daughter, Haylie Grace Willard, who was suffering with severe depression, took her own life. Many people would give up after a year like this, and few would fault them. But, Kelly never did. “The last three years have been a steep uphill climb."

"The fact that I am alive and still functioning after my daughter took her own life is like a miracle. Anyone who has lost a child would know what I mean." Kelly leaned not only on the Lord, but she was blessed with loving friends. One in particular was Jamie Wellington, whom Kelly would later marry. “Jamie was like my rock, and I leaned very hard upon him. He just did what the Lord told him, which was to love me and hold onto me. He did a perfect job of being there for me, and he still is. Also, my Pastor, my grief counselor, and people from my church were standing closely with and praying for me all of the way."

During all of this, Willard never stopped writing songs and her new CD, Paga', was released to the public on September 4, 2007 on AUTUMN RECORDS. Despite what she has been through, her music shows no evidence of bitterness, no “Why me, Lord?” There is just a sense of leaning into and trusting the loving hand of God woven throughout her music.

From start to finish, the arrangements on Paga' are simple and clear, yet never simplistic, much like the Gospel itself. Irish pipes, harps and strings accent the beauty of her pure, uncomplicated melodies. “A lot of my songs are just heartfelt longings for a closer walk with God." Kelly admits that “Charity” has been one of her favorite songs for a long time. Written by Ken Gulliksen during the Jesus Movement, it is an adaptation of 1 Corinthians 13, with the heart of the scripture in the chorus: "Jesus, reduce me to Love." The arrangement Kelly adopted for this song utilizes Celtic orchestration, complete with Irish pipes and harp, resulting in a haunting, evocative sound that is at once emotionally charged and spiritually soothing.

The folk rocker, “Take Up Your Bed and Walk,” is a challenge to people who are down, or whose relationship with God is stale, to get up from that place and walk with Him again.

Most artists have one song on their album that has a special meaning to them, and the worship song,"Beautiful Jesus", is that song for Kelly. “When I first heard this song written by Kelanie Gloeckler, my knees actually buckled, and I went down on the kitchen floor in worship to the Lord”, Kelly relates. However, Kelly’s love for this song goes beyond worship, as her daughter, Haylie, sung a duet with her on it. “Haylie sung the second verse and harmonized with me on the choruses. She wasn't even 16 years old yet, and I told her that she was 'better than me'! It's still too painful for me to listen to it very much, but it is one of the most precious things in the world to me."

Now, as a result of all she’s been through, Willard feels even stronger about singing to the brokenhearted.

“These are the people I can identify with the most,” she relates. “I don’t know what is going to happen, or how the Lord will use this, but I am willing to share openly. I have nothing to hide.”
